Oatmeal adds to the homey goodness of this dessert. Serve warm with ice
cream or frozen yogurt.

1/2 cup margarine or butter, room temperature
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup whole-wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon each: salt, ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon each: baking soda, ground cloves
Buttery Glaze (recipe follows)
1. Beat margarine and sugar in large bowl until blended; beat in egg, apple-
sauce, and vanilla. Mix in combined remaining ingredients, except Buttery
Glaze, stirring until well blended.
2. Pour batter into greased and floured 6-cup fluted cake pan; place pan
on rack in 6-quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on high until toothpick
inserted in center of cake comes out clean, 21/2 to 3 hours. Cool cake on
wire rack 10 minutes; invert onto rack and cool.
Buttery Glaze
Makes about 1/3 cup
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon butter extract
Milk
1. Mix powdered sugar and butter extract with enough milk to make a
glaze consistency.
